UST is already looking brand new in the preseason
Without a doubt, University of Sto. Tomas will be different under new head coach Aldin Ayo.
Not only has the multi-league champion coach installed his patented “Mayhem,” he has also completely changed the makeup of the Growling Tigers.
In fact, only six players will be back in action from last year’s team – reinforcement Steve Akomo, Henric Caunan, Zachy Huang, Leon Lorenzana, Vaughn Soriano, and team captain Marvin Lee.
Last year’s squad slogged through a 1-13 season – the school’s worst showing in the Final Four era.
That means that no longer in Espana – or on the roster, at the very least – are Justin Arana, Reggie Boy Basibas, Oliver de Guzman, Carlo Escalambre, Christian Garcia, Ben Kwawukumey, Joco Macasaet, MR Romero, and Jordan Sta. Ana.
According to Ayo, those players have left on their own volition and have decided to try their luck elsewhere.
In their places, the NCAA and UAAP champion coach has recruited blue-chip high school prospects CJ Cansino and Mike Enriquez who were both MVPs as well as solid pieces in Toby Agustin, Sherwin Concepcion, Makoy Marcos, and Kenneth Zamora.
More importantly, all set to come back and make use of their last playing year are spitfire guard Renzo Subido and scoring forward Embons Bonleon.
