UAAP: Fighting Maroons' 'UPRising' gets another boost
There truly is nowhere to go but UP for this squad.
The University of the Philippines' men's basketball program gets a major boost after inking a parnership with global technology company 3M Philippines, Inc.
3M Philippines president and managing director Ariel Lacsamana, UP president Danilo Concepcion, and officials of the aptly-named Nowhere To Go But UP Foundation (NTGBUP), a volunteer group of UP alumni that help the State U’s varsity programs, signed a Memorandum of Understanding last Tuesday, May 29, at Quezon Hall of the University of the Philippines Diliman.
Not only is the Fighting Maroons squad already stacked with young talent in Juan Gomez de Liano and Will Gozum, but it also landed highly-coveted UAAP Mythical Selection Ricci Rivero, weeks earlier.
UP is the owner of the longest postseason drought in the UAAP, having qualified for the Final Four way back in 1997.
The Fighting Maroons hoisted its last and only championship trophy back in 1986, a squad featuring a young Benjie Paras and Ronnie Magsanoc, mentored by the legendary Joe Lipa.
With its haul of rising stars and backers, the 'UPRising' is getting closer and closer to fruition.
