Jordan Bartlett of De La Salle University claimed the UAAP Season 81 1-on-1 men's basketball throne.
Jordan Bartlett used his speed and quickness to pull off an upset over the taller but obviously tired Kobe Paras of University of the Philippines to rule the UAAP Season 81 Last Man Standing 1-on-1 Hoops Challenge.
The 5-foot-11 De La Salle University guard, who is serving his one-year residency, beat the exhausted 6-foot-6 Paras, 11-8, in the Final at the Mall of Asia Friday.
Bartlett's explosiveness was too much for Paras, who before the championship participated and won the Slam Dunk Contest as well.
"That's how I play, I play fast," said Bartlett. "That's my niche is, my quickness. So regardless if he was tired or not that's how I'm gonna play anyway."
Paras finished off Robert Minerva of National University, 11-9, in the Final Four.
The UP cager was supposed to face University of Sto. Tomas' Brent Paraiso in the semis but the Tiger retired after suffering cramps.
Bartlett outplayed Ateneo de Manila University's Quinito Banzon, 5-4, in the other semis pairing.
Paras topped the elimination round after completing a sweep of Pool A.
The incoming Maroon outlasted University of the East's Jason Strait, 9-8, crushed Quinito Benson before taking a win by default over
Adamson's Ivan Maata, who skipped his last assignment because of an injury following his participation in the slam dunk contest.
Bartlett ruled Pool B with wins over Far Eastern University's Cade Flores, 7-4, Robert Minerva of National University, 7-5, and University of Sto. Tomas' Brent Paraiso, 9-3.
Banzon advanced in the semis with a 2-1 record beating Maata, 6-3, and Strait, 5-4.
Paraiso secured Pool B's other Final Four spot with a 1-2 card and a higher quotient over NU and FEU, who both also tallied 1-2 marks.
