No fight this time as UP downs MPBL champ Batangas

UP has put behind it the free-for-all fight it was involved in two days ago
Unlike three days ago, the University of the Philippines’ tuneup game against a Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League team reached the final buzzer.
With all of Paul Desiderio, Jun Manzo, and Bright Akhuetie showing their might, the Fighting Maroons downed MPBL inaugural champion Batangas, 60-52, on Wednesday at the brand new Epsilon Chi Multipurpose Center inside the UP campus in Diliman, Quezon City.
State U took a while to get going, but when things finally started rolling in the third quarter, there was no stopping them.
That is a much-welcome development just days after their tuneup game against another MPBL team in Muntinlupa was called off due to a fight that broke out.
Last Monday, Akhuetie got to know Dhon Reverente of the Cagers a little too well. The two traded punches before both benches got cleared.
Fortunately, the fight was broken up not long after and both sides just decided not to continue with the matchup.
For head coach Bo Perasol, matchups like these are much-needed as the Fighting Maroons complete their preparations for the upcoming UAAP Season 81. “Although we have to back each other up, we have to understand the bigger picture – winning,” he told reporters.
He then continued, “Today, yun yung inuna ko sa kanila e.”
There, they will try to end a more than two decade-long playoff drought.
And there, coach Bo hopes nothing more than for his boys to have learned his lesson. “Galing kaming problema, sa scuffle and ang hindi maganda dun, nawala kasi yung emotional control namin. If that’s going to be the UAAP, what’s going to happen with us,” he said.
He then continued, “Unti-unti, yun yung natutunan namin dapat.”
