"It's really about dedicating this season for Yanyan and the way she approached her UAAP career." -- DLSU Office of Sports Development Executive Director Nong Calanog
Every year, De La Salle University student-athletes carry a theme to empower them all throughout the UAAP season. This year, in light of La Salle alumna and table tennis Olympian Yan Lariba's passing Sunday night, they will rally behind a #4LaSalleYan battlecry.
"It started out with #4LaSalle, it's really a play on playing for La Salle and hopefully going for our fourth general championship. But now we added 4LaSalleYan," shared Nong Calanog, Executive Director for DLSU Office of Sports Development.
"It's really about dedicating this season for Yanyan and the way she approached her UAAP career, how she played, how she was a student-athlete and hopefully it would inspire our athletes to play and be motivated as we enter this UAAP season."
Aside from the battlecry tribute, La Salle sports and the rest of the Archers community will spend time tomorrow during their Pep Rally to remember the model student-athlete's life.
"Definitely tomorrow [in our pep rally] there will be some sharing. Part of it will probably be in honor of Yanyan aside from trying to motivate the athletes nga as we enter Season 81."
Both an extremely accomplished athlete and a consistent dean's lister, Lariba was an inspiration to other La Sallian athletes.
Larriba's wake will be at St. Peter Chapel Commonwealth. The public viewing will start Tuesday at 12 noon before her remains will be brought to her hometown Cagayan de Oro on Wednesday.
