UAAP 81: Silva's rating for first seniors game? 4 out of 10

Joe Silva's first game in the UAAP as head coach of the UE Red Warriors was quite a struggle.

Coming off a championship campaign in the juniors division with the Ateneo Blue Eaglets, coach Joe got a rude welcome in the senior ranks Saturday as the UAAP Season 81 men's basketball tournament opened at the MOA Arena.

Silva's Red Warriors took a 29-point beatdown at the hands of the upgraded UP Fighting Maroons.

UE forced a 33-all tie at halftime but the Red Warriors collapsed in the second half, particularly in the fourth period.

Naturally, Silva's rating for his first game is not that high.

"Ako? Syempre 4 [out of 10]," Silva said.

"Talo eh, tambak pa di ba? Rude awakening. Pero maganda na rin kasi at least I know I still have to work hard. Marami pa akong kakaining bigas," he added.

Silva was particular to that fourth quarter his Red Warriors had.

UE was down 13 after three, still a manageable game considering the UAAP has seen crazier things happen in the past few seasons.

However, the Fighting Maroons just pounded on the Red Warriors and dropped a final 29-13 hammer  for the win.

"We lacked the effort. Bumigay na sila nung fourth quarter," Silva said

"We were just down 13, winnable pa. Pero nung fourth quarter bumigay na," he added.
