Paul Desiderio can do a lot better than going 5-of-18 from the field
The University of the Philippines scored a big-time win to open the UAAP 81 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
They clobbered new-look University of the East by 29 points on Saturday.
This, even though team captain Paul Desiderio scored only 12 points in 5-of-18 shooting.
Yes, that winning margin could have been bigger if only Desiderio was his real self – that means getting buckets at will.
Head coach Bo Perasol himself said so. “I showed him the stats. He’s not a one-sided player so I just challenged him,” he shared.
He then continued, “If your shots are not going in, find a way to score.”
The State U skipper started doing just that in the second half, dropping seven points in a more efficient 3-of-8 mark from the field.
Coach Bo said he wants much more of that in the coming contests. “He knows how to play the game. He is a gunner, he can score wherever he wants,” he said.
He then continued, “That’s the Paul we’re looking for.”
