You want energy? Jerom Lastimosa will give just that.
In a statement win by the Adamson University over defending champions Ateneo de Manila University, several heroes emerged and one of them is first-year energy player Jerom Lastimosa.
Moments before Mall of Asia Arena went nuts over Jerrick Ahanmisi's spectacular hail mary to end the first half, Lastimosa provided the speed, grit, and energy for the Falcons.
With 30 seconds left in the second frame, Lastimosa missed his free throws but hustled up to clean his mess by grabbing the rebound for a quick layup with Isaac Go guarding him. Just a few seconds after, his backcourt pressure was too much for Ateneo rookie SJ Belangel as Lastimosa stole the ball, dished out another layup, and fished a foul.
"Sobrang blessed ko dun! Kasi malalaki sila sa akin tapos naisahan ko sila," said the 5-foot-10 point guard.
In just 10 seconds, the rookie churned out five points bringing Adamson within two. His hustle became the platform for Ahanmisi's go ahead basket in the first half, 40-39.
The momentum built from those sequences carried on to the second half which opened the gates ultimately for an Adamson upset, 74-70.
"Nag-prepara talaga kami sa Ateneo ng mahigit tatlong buwan para matalo namin sila kasi sila yung defending champion. Kinaya namin kahit malakas sila," Lastimosa shared.
But who is this new speedy point guard that is considered as the game-changer?
Lastimosa transferred to Adamson after playing for two years for Asian College in Dumaguete City. He was playing in the UniGames when he was spotted and was offered to play for Adamson. Now playing in arguably the premier collegiate league in Manila, Lastimosa feels ecstatic to make an impressive debut.
"Sobrang blessed ako na ginagamit nila ako, nila coach, tapos binigyan nila ako ng time na mahaba. Ginawa ko lang yung tama na ipapagawa sa kanila," said the amiable player who finished with six points, three rebounds, and four assists.
When asked about what role was given to him when he arrived to San Marcelino, it was really to give energy.
"To execute the play and make it fast sa pag di-dribble. Fastbreaks tapos set ko yung tao ko, [yun role ko,]" he added as he boost Adamson's backcourt with Koko Pingoy and Jed Colonia.
Now with Lastimosa, Adamson fans have more reason to bet on their team for they are assured that they have a ready energy booster in case they need one.
