UAAP: Adamson dispatches UE for 2-0 start to season
Adamson is perched atop the standings in the early going of the UAAP Season 81

On the back of a career performance from Sean Manganti, Adamson University has scored back-to-back convincing victories to begin the UAAP 81 Men’s Basketball Tournament.

Manganti registered a career-high 27 points and Jerrick Ahanmisi remained red-hot as the Soaring Falcons made quick work of University of the East, 90-76, on Wednesday at the MOA Arena.

Coming off a big-time upset of defending champion Ateneo de Manila University to start the season, Adamson only built on its momentum from there to march forward to the solo lead in the standings at 2-0.

Still, the Red Warriors were putting up a fight at the onset and behind Alvin Pasaol, even had the lead, 28-25, at the midway mark of the second.

It was at that point, however, that the Soaring Falcons scored 17 unanswered points punctuated by Ahanmisi’s triple for a 42-28 advantage in their favor late in the quarter.

They would not be threatened the rest of the way as Manganti waxed hot in the second half, firing 14 in the third and then eight in the fourth periods. “They’re accepting their respective roles as leaders. I mentioned to them that the young guys will follow them if they play well,” head coach Franz Pumaren said.

Ahanmisi was right there with him, dropping 17 points while Papi Sarr also posted a 15-point, 21-rebound double-double to make sure Adamson remained spotless through two games.

This is the first time since 2003 that the Soaring Falcons have started the season with back-to-back wins.

On the other hand, UE fell for the second straight time despite the best efforts of Alvin Pasaol who gave his all with 36 points in 14-of-33 shooting on top of 11 rebounds and two assists.
