Head coach Joe Silva is the first to admit that UE is undergoing rebuilding
University of the East remains winless in its new era under head coach Joe Silva.
Losing to the University of the Philippines in the season opener and then to Adamson University on Wednesday, the Red Warriors are the lone team without a win in the UAAP 81 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
Even so, the first-year head coach is not getting too down on himself and his team. “Going into this job, I knew it was going to be a challenge talaga. I just want to see the boys compete,” he told reporters.
For him, they have done just that – especially after seeing their games against the Fighting Maroons and the Soaring Falcons. “Well, at least we improved from last game. That’s what we want to see naman e – we keep on improving every game,” he said.
Indeed, UE lost by 29 points to UP and then by 14 to Adamson.
In the eyes of Coach Joe, that is nothing but improvement. “Maganda naman ang ginagawa ng mga bata. Lumalaban naman sila so sana, tuloy-tuloy lang ang process namin,” he shared.
Main man Alvin Pasaol could only echo the words of his mentor. As he put it, “Last game, blown out kami by UP. Siguro, step by step, makukuha din namin basta maging consistent lang.”
