"We proved naman na kaya naming makipag-compete sa one of the best. Siguro, nagka-meltdown lang ng kaunti." -- Dave Ildefonso
National University's rising rookie Dave Ildefonso held a good account of himself once again in the Bulldogs' second outing as he posted 16 points, four rebounds, and three assists.
However, unlike his UAAP debut game, it all went down the drain.
With the game decided in the last minute, NU's chances slipped away with De La Salle University drawing a smart play for Balti Baltazar with 28 ticks left and Ildefonso acknowledged that was a good play.
"Sa tingin ko amin talaga dapat 'yun. Stretches of the game, good shot 'yung kay [Balti] Baltazar. Kaya naman naming manalo," said Ildefonso.
"We proved naman na kaya naming makipag-compete sa one of the best. Siguro, nagka-meltdown lang nang kaunti," added the rookie.
No matter how things transpired in their latest game, Ildefonso is quick to tell that this does not represent the Bulldog brand of game.
"It doesn't show who we are. It doesn't show what we're capable of," he said.
Ildefonso has been showing so much maturity considering he is just a rookie yet the top scorer role is already upon his shoulders. Regardless of his youth, he is obviously up to the challenge. His scoring average after two games is already at 17.5 points.
"Siyempre, noong nawala sila Jayjay [Alejandro], nawala sila Matt [Salem], kami nila [Lloyd] Clemente 'yung mostly tinitignan, 'yung binibigyan ng plays. 'Yun talaga 'yung dahilan kaya kami kinuha; for scoring and mostly all-around," said the 6-foot-3 forward.
Ildefonso and the rest of the Bulldogs are set to try and avenge their recent loss on Saturday, September 22 against Ateneo de Manila University.
