UAAP Beach Volleyball: UST, NU begin title retention bids
Sisi Rondina will go for a fourth UAAP Beach Volleyball crown for the University of Santo Tomas
All eyes will be on Sisi Rondina as the University of Santo Tomas vies for a third consecutive women's championship, while National University goes for a back-to-back men's title run in the UAAP Season beach volleyball tournament which blasts off Monday at Sands SM By The Bay.

The Tigresses are most successful squad in the sport with five crowns, three of which Rondina won with different pairs.

n her final collegiate season in the sand court, Rondina will have Babylove Barbon as her new partner as UST opens its campaign against University of the Philippines at 10:40 a.m.

Now the most successful men's squad with four titles, the Bulldogs will lean once more on the battle-tested pair of Bryan Bagunas and James Natividad.

NU will have two matches to set in motion its title-retention campaign - against Far Eastern University at 8 a.m. and Adamson University at 1:20 p.m.

Rondina, who represented the Philippines in the FIVB Beach World Tour Manila Open last summer, has also won three MVP awards - as the Compostela, Cebu native hopes to cap her stint for the Tigresses as a winner.

The Rondina-Barbon partnership had success during the off-season, winning a Beach Volleyball Republic leg last month that installed them as UAAP favorites.

The Lady Tamaraws, last season's runner-up, will have a new pair in Ivana Agudo and Marianne Calinawan to fill the void left by Bernadeth Pons and Kyla Atienza.

After achieving their first-ever podium finish behind Tots Carlos and Ayel Estrañero last year, the Lady Maroons seek to go deeper with Isa Molde and Justine Dorog.

It's going an interesting battle for the men's crown.

UST's Krung Arbasto and his new partner Jaron Requinton will be NU's biggest threat for the crown.  Arbasto and Requinton defeated Bagunas and Natividad for the BVR Manila Open crown last month.

Other women's matches on tap are FEU-De La Salle at 11:20 a.m., Ateneo-NU at 12 noon and University of the East-Adamson University at 12:40 p.m.

After the NU-FEU clash to open the men's session, UST takes on Ateneo at 8:40 a.m., Adamson University plays UP at 9 a.m. and De La Salle goes up against UE at 9:40 a.m.

Other men's afternoon games scheduled are UST-De La Salle at 2 p.m., FEU-UP at 2:40 p.m. and Ateneo-UE at 3 p.m.
