Ateneo Blue Eagle Raffy Verano's best game of the season had to end early due to a right ankle sprain.
After a 46-point rout over National University, the Ateneo de Manila University had another blowout win this time against University of the East, 89-62. Raffy Verano played his best game of the season and led the Blue Eagles in scoring with 12 points on six of eight shooting from the field. He also had four rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
Scoring 10 of his points in the first half, Verano set up the foundation to the Blue Eagle's commanding lead.
"I think my teammates were just feeding me a lot and I just took the right shots and I felt like it [with] their defense so it came to me and I took it. I just came with that mindset, being ready to play," said the third year player.
Unfortunately, his game had to end early after he sprained his right ankle early in the final frame.
"I think it’s just a little sprain so I’ll have to treat it carefully," said Verano.
Despite Verano failing to finish the game, his absence hardly made a dent as the rest of the Blue Eagles continued to surged to widening their separation away from the Red Warriors.
"I mean it’s disappointing getting injured but I think it happens to every basketball player. It’s freak," said the 20-year-old Blue Eagle.
This just goes to show that with Ateneo's system, anyone can have a big game.
"Our team mentality is everyone can play. Like our bench, you can start anyone, anyone can come off the bench right away, anyone can play and everyone’s expected to play," he said.
