Adamson remains unscathed after making quick work of luckless NU
Adamson University remains an unsolvable riddle thus far in the UAAP 81 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
National University kept coming, but the Soaring Falcons just had all the answers for a 63-58 decision on Saturday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
Adamson was in command for majority of the matchup, but the Bulldogs just kept dogging them all game long. “We’re just lucky that we survived that ambush. We made a lot of mistakes and we made it difficult on our past,” a beaming head coach Franz Pumaren said post-game.
Still, all of Simon Camacho, Sean Manganti, and Papi Sarr all did their part to make sure the Soaring Falcons improved on its scorching start with its fifth win in as many games.
Troy Rike pulled NU within four points inside the last eight minutes only to see Camacho score six unanswered points in a span of 43 seconds to put his team back up, 51-41.
Again, the Bulldogs battled back to just down three, 58-61, with 17.8 ticks to go on the clock only to see Manganti convert his couple of charities for what proved to be the winning margin for Adamson.
Manganti wound up as the team’s top scorer with 14 points on top of four assists, three rebounds, and two steals while Camacho dropped eight markers, all in the final frame, to go along with five boards.
Sarr also posted an 11-point, 10-rebound double-double while Jerrick Ahanmisi had 11 markers to his name.
For NU, Dave Ildefonso fronted the effort with 14 points and three rebounds while Troy Rike chipped in right markers and 11 boards of his own. All of those weren’t enough, however, as they fell for the third time in a row following a season-opening win.
