UAAP: Captain Kib Montalbo is still here for La Salle
Kib Montalbo was still in uniform even though he is reported to be out for four to six weeks

Kib Montalbo was diagnosed with a fractured left thumb last Monday and was reported to be out of action for four to six weeks.

In De La Salle University’s game against the University of the Philippines on Saturday, however, the team captain was still suited up and sitting on the bench.

Asked about it afterwards, he answered, “Para makasalita pa rin ako sa kanila.”

Indeed, always the leader, Montalbo could still be seen talking to his teammates throughout the game.

For the graduating guard, this was all he could do now he has been confined to the bench. “Siyempre, na-badtrip ako, but you still gotta deal with it. So ako, stay positive lang and give moral support,” he said.

That was exactly why he was in uniform and still motivating his teammates as they tried and tried, but ultimately succumbed to the Fighting Maroons. “Sinasabi ko sa kanila, the show goes on. It will never stop kahit wala ako dyan and the only thing they have to do is step up,” he shared.

He then continued, “Nandito naman ako para mag-guide sa kanila.”

That doesn’t mean, however, that Montalbo will be confined to the bench and as a leader until the end of the season. As he put it, “I’ll be back. I’ll be back for sure. Looking forward to it.”

If the four to six-week timetable holds true, he will be ready to go once more for La Salle near the end of the second round – just when the playoff race will be at its most intense.

Or that could be even earlier as, apparently, the La Salle skipper has also lost one hobby due to injury.

A football fan, Montalbo had just recently bought FIFA 19 for the Playstation 4, but soon discovered that his fractured left thumb wouldn’t let him use the controller properly. “Sayang nga e. Kakabili ko lang ng FIFA kahapon tapos…” he said before pausing for just a bit.

He then continued, “Badtrip nga e.”
