Aldin Ayo stresses the need for Germy Mahinay to follow the system since they are lacking depth at the center spot.
Coach Aldin Ayo admitted he scolded rookie center Germy Mahinay for "not following the instructions" in UST's win against the UE Red Warriors at the Mall of Asia Arena Saturday afternoon.
The intense mentor was seen reprimanding the San Beda product moments after committing a traveling violation with 6:16 left in the game. At that point of the game, UE was trying to mount a comeback, failing several times previously.
When asked after the game, Ayo said that Mahinay had apologized to the former, but the coach insisted he apologize to the rest of the team as well.
"He was not following the instructions, he was not going with the flow. Ayoko naman na may isang player na makasama o makaapekto sa takbo ng team."
"[Mahinay] apologized to me, pero sabi ko sa kanya apologize to your teammates, your managers, to the whole team kasi ‘di naman sa akin ‘yan eh. Para sa buong UST ‘yan."
Ayo emphasized that Mahinay's play, that led him to a five-point, six-rebound performance in exactly 10 minutes of play would be a big catalyst for UST since foreign center Steve Akomo is still recuperating from food poisoning.
Mahinay was not available for comment.
