Basta ibibigay lang namin kung ano ang kaya naming ibigay and siyempre di namin aayawan talaga na makuha namin itong championship -- Sisi Rondina
Graduating University of Sto. Tomas star Sisi Rondina braces for a tough battle as the Tigresses gun for a three-peat in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament.
The three-time Most Valuable Player Rondina and teammate youthful Blove Barbon marches inside the sandcourt of the Sands SM by the Bay on Sunday morning against a very dangerous De La Salle University pair of Michelle Morente and Tin Tiamzon.
UST may have swept its way into the best-of-three Finals without dropping a single set, Rondina is remains wary of the Lady Spikers.
“Sobrang hirap nilang kalabanin kasi matitibay sila eh,” said Rondina on Saturday as she watched the stepladder semifinals, eagerly waiting for their championship opponent.
DLSU clinched the last Finals berth after booting out University of the Philippines’ Isa Molde and Justine Dorog, 21-16, 24-26, 15-9.
The Tigresses, which destroyed the Lady Spikers, 21-14, 21-14, in the elims, enjoyed a day of rest compared to their rivals but Rondina knows that fatigue won’t matter especially with the gold medal on the line.
“Hindi, walang advantage yun. Siguro sa pahinga, oo, advantage yun. Pero walang advantage when it comes to tibay ng loob kasi high morale sila eh, pagdating bukas babanat din talaga yan eh,” said Rodina of the Lady Spikers.
For Rondina, who won three beach volleyball titles in her first four years with the Espana-based squad, the realization of her final tour of duty for the black and gold is slowly sinking in as she waits for the championship series to begin.
“Sobrang special (itong championship stint). Kasi alam mo dati ‘yung feeling na kaba lang dati pero ngayon maluluha ka na lang. Kasi dati kapag may nagpo-post na signing off, signing off ‘Sus, ang drama naman nito’ pero sobrang seryoso pala talaga yun kapag last year mo na,” she said.
“Basta ibibigay lang namin kung ano ang kaya naming ibigay and siyempre di namin aayawan talaga na makuha namin itong championship,” vowed Rondina.
