UST claimed a spot in the Finals after dragging NU off the throne in the UAAP Season 81 men's beach volleyball.
University of Sto. Tomas' mission to reclaim the crown continued after dethroning National University in the stepladder semifinals of the UAAP Season 81 men's beach volleyball tournament.
Graduating Krung Arbasto and rookie Jaron Requinton didn't need their twice-to-beat advantage as they downed the former champs Bryan Bagunas and James Natividad in straight sets, 24-22, 21-15, Saturday at the Sands SM by the Bay.
The Espana-based squad, which surrendered the throne last year to the Bulldogs, booked a date with unbeaten Far Eastern University's Jude Garcia and Kevin Hadlocon on Sunday's best-of-three Finals.
After escaping a tight opening set, which mirrored their elims clash, the Tigers broke the game open early after building a 15-10 lead that they extended to 18-12 before cruising to the win capped by Requinton's kill block on Bryan Bagunas.
The Bulldogs survived the first phase of the semis after booting out no. 4 seed Adamson University pair of Paolo Pablico and Jesus Valdez, 21-13, 21-16, to open the playdate.
UST and NU battled in a tight end of elims face off Friday where the Tigers outlasted the Bulldogs, 30-32, 21-12, 15-13, to clinch the semis advantage.
