UP head coach Bo Perasol could only admit that his team was both outplayed and outhustled by UST
The University of the Philippines was ran out of the MOA Arena by University of Sto. Tomas on Friday.
Falling into a 2-12 hole in the earlygoing which turned into a 30-point deficit, the Fighting Maroons ultimately lost by 14 points.
For State U head coach Bo Perasol, the reason why they lost is pretty simple – the Growling Tigers wanted it more. “UST deserved the win. We deserved to lose that game because we were totally outhustled and outplayed,” he told reporters post-game.
Indeed, UST’s greater desire and determination were no more evident than in terms of rebounding where they dominated, 51-38, as well as second chance points where they dominated, 18-4.
In the eyes of coach Bo, UP underestimated their opponents. “They thought they were just going to roll over and win against UST. You can’t take anything away from UST because they played very well,” he said.
Now, the challenge for the Maroons is how to move forward from a 3-4 finish in the first round.
The good news is that they remain upbeat about their chances. As their always amiable mentor put it, “We all believe that we are definitely better than that. We need to do something so that we could still achieve what we have put in as our goals this season.”
He then continued, “We all know that positioning in the Final Four is very, very close. We just have to climb back again. I think we still have the time. I think that we can recover.”
