UAAP: UST takes fight out of UP for back-to-back wins
Without a doubt, UST wanted to win more than UP all throughout their matchup

University of Sto. Tomas bared all of its teeth and brought out all of its claws for a second straight convincing victory in the UAAP 81 Men’s Basketball Tournament.

Super rookie CJ Cansino kept starring, but all of the Growling Tigers also shone bright as they turned down the hype on the University of the Philippines with an 86-72 blowout on Wednesday at the MOA Arena.

Young swingman Cansino had another double-double and UST never trailed and was never threatened en route to back-to-back wins coming from a 1-4 start to the season.

Cansino and Zachy Huang spearheaded their 12-2 blast to begin the matchup.

The Growling Tigers would never let up from that point, outplaying and outworking their opponents from start to finish.

Their greater desire and determination were no more evident than in terms of rebounding where they dominated, 51-28 as well as second chance points where they dominated, 18-4.

In the end, Cansino had 17 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, and two steals while backcourt mates Renzo Subido, Ken Zamora, and Marvin Lee chipped in 13, 12, and 11 markers, respectively.

Even the likes of seldom-used rookies Ira Bataller and Toby Agustin did their part as they rose to a share of fifth at the end of their first round with the also 3-4 Maroons.

For UP, Bright Akhuetie topped the scoring column with an 18-point, 11-rebound double-double. Javi Gomez de Liano also added 12 markers off the bench.

All of Juan GDL, Paul Desiderio, and Jun Manzo struggled, however, and combined for only 15 points in 7-of-24 shooting.
