Just as 7'1" UAAP juniors basketball phenom Kai Sotto was about to return to action with the Ateneo Blue Eaglets, reports of a five-year contract offered by European powerhouse Real Madrid started to surface.
While the 17-year-old season 80 juniors Finals MVP went on record to reveal his plans of finishing his junior high school studies in Ateneo first, the future is still in Kai's hands.
Because of the young center's tantalizing height, deft touch, and light feet, Pinoy basketball fans have spent countless hours online debating the wunderkind's next move.
Former UP Fighting Maroon and now Ginebra Gin King Jett Manuel and former Ateneo Blue Eagle Jai Reyes join Mico Halili on The Score, to weigh in on Sotto's choice, and the ideal next step.
Manuel, who spent his last year in the UAAP trying to will UP to a breakthrough Final Four stint, is in favor, as he wants Kai to avoid any "what ifs" in the future, saying that the young center can return home anytime he wants and still have a fruitful career, in case things doesn't pan out overseas.
Reyes cites Filipinos' close family ties for Kai's decision to stay, adding that the sudden culture change may be too much to handle for the teen.
Mico Halili meanwhile asks the players to expand on the nuances of making the decision for one of the Philippines' most tantalizing prospects in recent memory.
