UP's Bright Akhuetie ahead of the pack in UAAP 81 MVP race
Without a doubt, Bright Akhuetie has made an immediate impact for UP

Bright Akhuetie has wasted no time in proving his worth for the University of the Philippines.

So much so that after the first round, Akhuetie finds himself pacing the race for MVP in the UAAP 81 Men’s Basketball Tournament.

Nigerian powerhouse Akhuetie is ahead of the pack with 77.00 Statistical Points (SPs) built on per game counts of 15.7 points, 15.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 2.1 blocks.

Making his early lead even more impressive is the fact that he doesn’t have the benefit of that much win bonus as the Fighting Maroons only have three wins to show after seven games.

Following him is University of the East’s Alvin Pasaol who has 71.57 SPs on averages of 23.7 points, 10.1 rebounds, 1.6 steals.

Like Akhuetie, Pasaol’s numbers are yet to be boosted by the record of the 1-6 Red Warriors.

Rounding out the top five are Ateneo de Manila University’s Ivorian tower Angelo Kouame (68.43 SPs), De La Salle University’s rising center Justine Baltazar (64.57 SPs), and the Fighting Maroons’ second-year stud Juan Gomez de Liano (60.57 SPs).

First-place Far Eastern University’s best individual performer thus far is Prince Orizu at 11th in the MVP race while second-running Adamson University’s best individual performer thus far is Jerrick Ahanmisi at sixth.

University of Sto. Tomas super rookie CJ Cansino and Dave Ildefonso, his counterpart in National University, stand at seventh and 13th, respectively.
