Encho Serrano and Andrei Caracut both had their best games of the season thus far in La Salle's back-to-back wins
Little by little, Encho Serrano is making his presence felt for De La Salle University in the UAAP 81 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
The one-time top high school player in all of the Philippines turned in his best game in college thus far to tow the Green Archers to a wire-to-wire 79-59 win over University of the East on Wednesday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
Serrano collected 18 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals in just 18 minutes off the bench as his team never trailed. “We respect UE. Kahit sino ang kalaban namin, we need to put the work in,” head coach Louie Gonzalez said post-game.
Andrei Caracut was beside him all along, scoring a season-best 16 points to go along with six rebounds and two assists in La Salle’s back-to-back wins and fifth overall in eight games.
It was also those two who connived for all but two points in the 17-3 run that turned a three-point lead into a 66-49 advantage entering the final frame.
The frontline of Justine Baltazar and Santi Santillan was also a force, merging for 25 points and seven rebounds as the Green Archers powered their way to even ground with Far Eastern University at third-place. “With the standings, every win counts,” coach Louie said.
Alvin Pasaol had a 22-point, 17-rebound double-double to pace the Red Warriors who fell for the seventh time out of eight.
