Thirdy Ravena is not worrying about losing individual awards
Thirdy Ravena is not sweating the fact that for the first time in five years, there will be no Ravena in the UAAP Mythical Team.
“Para sa akin, kung nandun siya, e ‘di andun siya,” he told reporters after Ateneo de Manila University scored its third win in a row on Wednesday. “Kung wala, I can’t do anything about it.”
This was Ravena’s first game back after serving a one-game suspension, which he incurred for what he appeared to do to Paul Desiderio in their match-up with the University of the Philippines.
Then, he was not called for any foul, but after replay reviews post-game, it was found that he threw a closed fist at Desiderio.
As such, the league meted out to him a one-game suspension.
According to the league’s house rule, a suspension disqualifies a player from any individual awards.
And so, for the first time since Season 76, neither Kiefer nor Thirdy will be part of the Mythical selection.
Ravena, however, said that individual awards are far from his mind. As he put it, “Right now, I’m really happy na mas naka-focus ako on my team and para sa akin, ang importante, championship. Sa totoo lang naman, walang sense of fulfillment kung may individual award ka, but you can’t really bring your team with you.”
He then continued, “Para sa akin, mas importante yung lahat kami as a team na nage-enjoy kasi yun yung tinrabaho and pinaghirapan namin for eight months.”
Indeed, he showed just that in doing it all for the Blue Eagles with 10 points, five rebounds, and four assists in their romp over the Red Warriors.
“Right now, mas okay nga yun kasi parang ang iniisip ko na lang, kumbaga, kung ano yung maitutulong ko sa team. Instead of dwelling on the negative, I turn that energy into how I can help my team better,” he said.
All that matters for the fourth-year Ateneo forward is that he has many people behind his back. “Dun sa suspension, nakita ko na ang dami pa lang nagmamahal sa akin, ang daming sumusuporta sa akin. I don’t really dwell on the negative,” he shared.
He then continued, “I have a lot of people who have my back and the best thing I could do is to play my best for them.”
