UAAP 81 Girls Volleyball: NU sweeps first round

Five-peat-seeking National University swept the first round of the UAAP Season 81 girls volleyball tournament.
National University is cruising on a rosy road in its five-peat bid.
The Bullpups went flawless in the first round of eliminations after crushing hapless University of the East, 25-12, 25-19, 25-13, Friday in the UAAP Season 81 girls volleyball tournament at the Blue Eagle gym.
NU swept all of its six games in the first round and solidified its hold of the solo top spot with skipper Faith Nisperos leading the way with 13 points.
Head coach Babes Castillo gave all of her girls playing time and each one delivered points while liberos Roma Mae Doromal and Shaira Jardino did their roles on floor defense well.
Alyssa Solomon saw only two sets of action but still tallied eight points while Mhicaela Belen, Sheen Toring and Erin Pangilinan had six markers each for the Bullpups, who landed 18 aces with Solomon and Evangeline Alinsug scoring four each from the service line.
The Junior Lady Warriors dropped their fifth match in six games.
While NU’s making a great run, its archrival University of Sto. Tomas absorbed its third straight loss.
Adamson University added woes to the Junior Tigresses, 16-25, 20-25, 25-19, 25-21, 15-10, for a 4-2 card.
Kate Santiago poured 21 points off 16 attacks, three aces and two kill blocks while Ayesha Juegos scored 11 for the Baby Falcons.
UST slid to 3-3 card despite the 19-point effort of Renee Penafiel.
Far Eastern University beat De La Salle-Zobel, 25-20, 25-14, 22-25, 25-23, to tie UST and hand the Junior Lady Spikers their second loss in six outings.
