""Hanggang together kami, walang makakatalo sa amin."
UAAP Season 77 was the beginning of history that the National University Lady Bulldogs were writing. It was also on that season that Ria Nabalan was awarded as the Rookie of the Year. A season after, another Lady Bulldog in Jack Animam was given the same award.
Fast forward to UAAP Season 81, the Lady Bulldogs are on top of the history books as the team with the longest winning streak in the league with 74 straight wins. This means that neither Nabalan nor Animam have ever tasted defeat in their UAAP careers.
Hindi man forever, pero nasa history books na kami," said Nabalan who is now in her fifth year.
To Animam, it was NU's defeat in the Finals of Season 76 versus De La Salle University that served as her inspiration to stay away from the losing column. She witnessed that heartbreaking loss as a high schooler.
"I saw the NU team way back Season 76. Sabi ko sa sarili ko, kung five years man yung lalaruin ko sa NU, I don't want to feel that kind of situation," Animam shared.
"As long as maglalaro ako sa NU, gusto ko palagi kami manalo," she said.
And she stayed true to her word. In fact, both Nabalan and Animam think that their dominance in the division is not going to end anytime soon.
Imagine that? Hindi ko masasabi hanggang kailan pero I assure you hindi lang hundreds 'to, abangan niyo," Animam said when asked how long she thinks this streak will go.
"Hanggang together kami, walang makakatalo sa amin," echoed Nabalan.
Nabalan and Animam are women who don't know the taste of defeat and clearly, they have no plans of tasting it anytime soon.
