UAAP: CJ Cansino gets attention of Kiefer Ravena
CJ Cansino is only continuing to open eyes in his rookie season

CJ Cansino tallied a triple-double in University of Sto. Tomas’ victory versus University of the East on Sunday.

He is the first rookie to achieve a feat since 2003.

This, just a day after the Growling Tigers’ super rookie turned 19-years-old.

As it turns out, Cansino shares a birthday with somebody who was once a super rookie himself – and the latter had nothing but kind words for the former.

Yes, Kiefer Ravena, he of two championships and two MVPs in the UAAP, gave big ups to one of the contenders for this season’s Rookie of the Year.

Told about it post-game, Cansino’s eyes lit up. “Talaga? ‘Di ko nakita! Idol ko yun e, ka-birthday ko pa,” he said.

He then continued, “Nahiya lang ako batiin pero pinapanood ko rin siya kung paano maglaro and idol ko talaga siya. Thank you na binati niya ako.”

All in all, though, the triple-double could just be the first of many for UST’s tantalizing talent. “I know that ever since kinuha ko si CJ, he is full of potential. Gusto lang namin mag-materialize yun,” head coach Aldin Ayo said.

He then continued, “I hope never siya makuntento and he continues improving. The good thing about CJ is that he always responds whatever sinasabihan namin.”
