UAAP: UST downs UE behind Lee's threes, Cansino's triple-double

Marvin Lee and CJ Cansino just could not be stopped as UST took down UE.
With Renzo Subido out with an injury, Marvin Lee caught fire and CJ Cansino caught the triple-double bug on Sunday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
Red-hot Lee scorched the nets with a career-high 27 points, Cansino stuffed the stat sheet, and University of Sto. Tomas stomped down on also-ran University of the East, 79-68, for a place inside the playoff picture in the UAAP 81 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
The fourth-year guard went berserk right out of the gates, scoring 22 points all while peppering in seven triples in just 17 minutes in the first half.
It was also him and Cansino who got together in the massive 16-4 surge that erased a six-point deficit in the middle of the second and erected a 39-31 advantage late in the quarter.
The Red Warriors could only come as close as nine the rest of the way.
Lee wound up with 30 points to go along with two assists and two rebounds while his super rookie teammate made his presence felt all over with 20 points, 13 boards, and 10 assists as well as two steals.
Since 2003, Cansino is the first rookie to record a triple-double.
Thanks to those two, the Growling Tigers overcame the absence of Subido who suffered a stress fracture on his left leg during practice.
And thanks to those two, coach Aldin’s wards find themselves in joint fourth with the also 5-5 University of the Philippines.
And if the Fighting Maroons lose in their game later, they will stand at solo fourth now in the stretch run of the tournament.
As always, Alvin Pasaol left it all on the floor with 26 points, seven rebounds, three blocks, and two steals. All of it still wasn’t enough as their standing dropped to 1-10.
