UAAP: Against Coach Aldin or not, Aljun Melecio will go all-out for La Salle

Aljun Melecio yet again showed just why he was once coach Aldin Ayo's most-wanted recruit
ANTIPOLO - The first time that head coach Aldin Ayo and scoring guard Aljun Melecio faced off, the latter got the better of the former.
Melecio scored 22 points on top of six assists and five rebounds and shot De La Salle University over former mentor Ayo and his new team in University of Sto. Tomas.
Still, though they are now representing different schools, the two have always had a connection that was created back in 2012 when Ayo, then only a coach starting his career, had Melecio, then only a kid with loads of talent, on his team in the Jr. NBA.
The next time the two met, however, the result wasn’t any different – in fact, it was even better for the Green Archers and even worse for the Growling Tigers.
Again, it was Melecio who was the catalyst, pouring in 19 points, eight rebounds, and two assists.
Of course, the now third-year guard was laser-focused as he played opposite his one-time mentor once more.
That is even truer as the two shared a moment right before tip-off. “Before lang ng game, nilapitan ko si coach. Nag-good luck kami sa isa’t-isa,” he said.
Without a doubt, lady luck was smiling at Melecio and all of La Salle this time around.
That doesn’t mean, however, that the 5-foot-8 scoring dynamo’s inspired play only comes when coach Aldin is on the other side. As he put it, “Actually, every game naman, ganito ako – binibigay ko 100 percent ko. ‘Di lang dahil kalaban si Coach Aldin kaya ganito.”
He then continued, “Every game talaga, binibigay ko best ko.”
With that, the faithful over at Taft Avenue could rest assured that Melecio will only continue bringing his best for them. “Ayoko maging overconfident dahil dito. Magandang panalo ‘to, pero it doesn’t mean na kumpyansa na kami,” he said.
