Arvin Tolentino connived with Ken Tuffin and Barkley Ebona to power FEU back to the win column
ANTIPOLO – Finally, Far Eastern University has gotten going once more in the 81st Season of the UAAP Men’s Basketball Tournament.
Losers of four in a row, the Tamaraws got to stop their skid by charging at and then stomping down on University of the East, 80-61, on Sunday at the Ynares Center here.
Arvin Tolentino waxed hot with 18 points and five rebounds while Ken Tuffin had his own 17 markers and four boards as FEU forged a tie for fourth-place now at 6-6. “For us, it’s a new lease on life. It’s our first win sa second round and we’re hoping to get the next games to keep our playoff hopes alive,” head coach Olsen Racela said post-game.
Barkley Ebona also posted a 12-point, 16-rebound double-double to help his team to a wire-to-wire win.
On a more personal note, they also exacted revenge on the Red Warriors who upset them in the first round.
Ebona’s inside basket punctuated his team’s 14-3 rush right out of the gates.
Tolentino then joined in on the fun in the second quarter as his back-to-back long-range missiles built up a 34-13 advantage in favor of the Tamaraws.
Alvin Pasaol and UE would last threaten at 47-67 late in the third only to see Axel Inigo and Hubert Cani hit two triples in a row for the quick counter for FEU.
The Red Warriors have now lost seven in a row and 11 overall in 12 games. As always, Pasaol paced them with 24 points and 12 rebounds.
He had no other teammate join him in double-digits.
