Juan GDL is, along with everybody else, hoping for the best for Better Basketball PH brother CJ Cansino
The University of the Philippines’ Juan Gomez de Liano and University of Sto. Tomas’ CJ Cansino tallied triple-doubles just a week apart.
Of course, it’s now known that the two share more of a connection than just being the first players to tally triple-doubles since 2006.
GDL and Cansino are being trained by coach Patrick Tancioco’s Better Basketball PH. According to the program’s Facebook page, it is a “skills training academy that aims to motivate and help players achieve their goals and dreams.”
With that, the next meeting of the Fighting Maroon and the Growling Tiger became even more must-see.
Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see that matchup at its fullest as Cansino exited due to an apparent left knee injury in the middle of the second quarter on Saturday.
And so, all Juan GDL could do was to give his best to his fellow Better Basketball PH trainee. “It’s sad to see a brother down on the ground. I hope he’s all right,” he told reporters post-game after UP pounced on that injury to put away UST.
Apparently, the second-year Fighting Maroon also went out of his way to give his love to Cansino when the latter briefly sat on the baseline seats after halftime. “I just told him to stay strong and I’ll pray for him,” he shared about the moment they shared.
That also goes for Juan GDL’s mentor. “I hope that CJ is safe and it’s nothing serious. We’re all praying for him,” coach Bo Perasol said.
