In an off-the-bench role, Thirdy Ravena scored 14, grabbed 10 boards, and swatted away two shots in 28:17 minutes of action.
Call it cliché, but Thirdy Ravena did what's best for the team.
Whether in a starting capacity or an off-the-bench role, the hulking forward says it's no problem for him.
In one of the biggest games of the season, against archrivals La Salle, coach Tab Baldwin did the unthinkable and inserted Ravena from the bench, but clearly his performance was still the same.
Thirdy scored 14, grabbed 10 boards, and swatted away two shots in 28:17 minutes of action.
For him, he didn't care whether he'd start or come off the bench because he has full faith in Baldwin's decision-making.
"It's nothing different for me. You just have to adjust. Si coach Tab, alam naman ang gagawin niya throughout the game. He knows how to prepare. As a player, kailangan ready ka lang sa lahat ng instances na puwedeng mangyari yun," Ravena said in the post-game presser.
"If it means coming off the bench, that means as a veteran of the team, kailangan maganda yung start para sa other guys coming off the bench produce for the team as well. It's just another challenge."
Coach Sandy Arespacochaga explained it best as an experiment for Ateneo heading to the Final Four in preparation for the possible postseason opponents, and be ready for any on-the-fly changes.
"We’d like to think that we don’t have a set starting five. We can come up with a starting five that can be someone off the bench. Last game, we had a two-guard combination," the agreaable assistant coach said.
"We will see. Going forward, we don’t know what coach Tab will do and will be thinking about, but definitely we have a purpose for that also. It’s a good thing that Thirdy wasn’t bothered by that change. He still played well for us and that was very important.”
