Kai Sotto dedicated the victory to recovering teammate Forthsky Padrigao.
Citing academics, Kai Sotto won't be attending Gilas Pilipinas' tune-up game against Jordan at the Meralco Gym Monday evening.
Sotto says he will be undergoing exams this week at Ateneo High School, thus not being able to devote his time fully to the rigors of national team training.
"Hindi ako pupunta sa practice. Exams namin sa Ateneo. Hindi ako lalaro bukas," the 7 foot 1 center said.
Even though he won't be able to attend training for Gilas, Sotto had a show in their 75-59 win against the Adamson Baby Falcons at the Blue Eagle Gym Sunday morning.
The slot man had 27 points and 20 rebounds in the victory, with 17 of those markers coming from the free throw line.
Even so, new Blue Eaglet coach Reggie Varilla was proud of his boys of towing themselves to the win, days after floor general Forthsky Padrigao underwent an appendectomy and will be out the remainder of the first round.
Sotto even dedicated the victory to his recovering teammate who he is proud to be called as his best friend.
"Si Forthsky talaga, best friend ko yan. Sobrang ka-close ko yan. Alam ko yung nararamdaman niya na yung parang comeback season niya tapos naputol pa."
About his 25 attempts from the line, Sotto expected the swarming Adamson defense to give no inch to him, and took every opportunity to take advantage of the tactic.
"Yun talaga gagawin lagi ng depensa. Expected na lagi. Marami rin akong namintis so sayang."
