NU just set another mountain bar
The National University Pep Squad has set another bar in the UAAP Cheerdance Competition after their bulletproof Dia De Los Perros (Day of the Dog) themed routine. Coming off a heartbreaking fifth place finish last year, NU redeemed themselves with a clean and perfect run that garnered them no deductions.
NU performed fifth out of the eight schools but after their performance, everybody knew, both the fans in the venue and online, that was the piece to beat. Even competitor coaches shared the sentiment.
"Nung napanood ko NU, alam ko number one na sila. Ang galing nila," said Randell San Gregorio, head coach of the FEU Cheering Squad.
"Tingnan mo nga yung NU out of this world na. Bionic," he added after he led FEU to a first runner-up finish with 655.5 points.
Coach Jam Lorenzo, the engineer of Adamson Pep Squad's Season 80 championship, also had nothing but words of admiration to the Season 81 titlists.
"Achievement na sa akin yung ma-dethrone sila last year in a good way, sobrang skilled yung team nila," Lorenzo said.
In a beautiful display of sportsmanship during the announcement, moments before the ultimate winner was called, the crowd started chanting "NU, let's go!" The members of the Adamson Pep Squad who were positioned on the mats just beside NU joined the chants.
This just goes to show that the Bulldogs were the clear cut winners of this year's competition.
Both runner up coaches expressed that the existence of NU, the team that elevated the landscape of UAAP CDC, pushes them to catch up and hopefully top them in the future.
"Motivation ko sila kasi they are undeniably good," echoed Adamson's Lorenzo.
"Nakaka-inspire sila. The challenge now is how to be on the same level. Darating din tayo dun," said FEU's San Gregorio, "All the teams are improving, kung nag-iimprove ka, yung kalaban mo nag-iimprove din."
With NU setting a ridiculously high bar and other teams striving to reach that bar, UAAP CDC fans are just in for a treat every year.
