UST rookie Nonoy tallies triple-double as Tiger Cubs get win
Mark Nonoy 17 points, 16 rebounds, and 12 assists in 34:50 minutes of action as the UST Tiger Cubs got their first win of the season.

Rookie Mark Nonoy of the UST Tiger Cubs tallied a triple-double in his second-ever game as his side halted the UPIS Junior Fighting Maroons, 75-63 in the UAAP Season 81 Juniors' Basketball Tournament at the Blue Eagle Gym Sunday afternoon.

Nonoy, an 18-year old one-and-done recruit from the Palarong Pambansa posted 17 points, 16 rebounds, and 12 assists in 34:50 minutes of action as the black and gold got their first win of the season.

He scored 31 points in his UAAP debut, a loss against defending champions Ateneo last Nov. 11.

Along with the triple-double were eight turnovers.

The guard's triple-double is also the first since Ateneo's Kai Sotto logged 22 markers, 16 boards and 11 rejections in Game 1 of the UAAP Season 80 Juniors' Basketball Finals against the NU Bullpups Feb. 23 this year.

Bismarck Lina led the Tiger Cubs' scoring with a double-double performance of 21 points and 14 rebounds.

For the losing side, Ralph Labao scored 19 and grabbed 11 rebounds, while Jacob Estrera and John Tuazon added 11 apiece as they fall to a 0-2 hole.

UST was in control much of the game, reliquishing the game only once, but pulled away with a 13-4 run to close the second quarter.

The Tiger Cubs led by as much as 18, 53-35, midway through the third period.

"We have a lot of things to improve on, dominating especially sa loob. In fairness to UP, maganda naman nilaro nila," new Tiger Cubs coach Bonnie Garcia said.

In the third game of the day, the Nazareth School of National University (NSNU) Bullpups decimated the De La Salle - Santiago Zobel (DLS-Z) Junior Archers, 91-49.

NU, who improve to a 2-0 record, totally dominated the matchup, leading by as much as 46 points in the second half, 76-30, via Carl Tamayo's difficult reverse.

Cyril Gonzales led the Bullpups with 13 points. Teammates Harold Alarcon, Terrence Fortea, and Carl Tamayo finished in double-figures as well.

For the now 1-1 Junior Archers, Henrie Subido paced the offense with 15 markers.

NU will next face UST while DLSZ matches up with UPIS next Sunday, Nov. 25.

To close out the four-game day, the FEU-Diliman Baby Tamaraws gored the UE Junior Red Warriors 81-54.

FEU took hold of the lead and never looked back, leading by as much as 30 points, 75-45, midway through the final canto.

RJ Abarrientos had quite the game for the Baby Tamaraws, ending up with 20 points, five rebounds, and eight assists.

It was a more balanced scoring effort for UE, as no player breached double-digits in scoring.

Dave Agbas, Mike Flores, and Warren Villarta each contributed nine for the Junior Red Warriors.

The Baby Tamaraws get their first win of the season and improve to a 1-1 record while UE dives down to 0-2.

Next for the Baby Tams are the Blue Eaglets while the Junior Red Warriors' next opponent will be the Baby Falcons on Sunday, Nov. 25.
