UAAP Season 81 volleyball: NU, DLS-Z forge title showdown

National University and De La Salle-Zobel set up a title showdown in the UAAP Season 81 girls volleyball tournament.
Defending four-time champion National University and De La Salle-Zobel trumped their respective Final Four opponents to set up a best-of-three title showdown in the UAAP Season 81 girls volleyball at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Reigning Most Valuable Player Mhicaela Belen and Faith Nisperos fueled the Bullpups’ quick work of Adamson University, 25-15, 25-19, 25-20, Wednesday for their seventh straight Finals appearance.
Belen finished with 16 points off 13 attacks, two aces and a kill block laced with nine excellent receptions while Nisperos punched all of her 15 points from kills for NU. Alyssa Solomon added 10 markers while Sheena Toring got nine for the Bullpups.
Meanwhile, the Junior Lady Spikers snapped University of Sto. Tomas’ five straight Finals appearance to return to the championship since winning it all seven years ago with a 25-23, 25-21, 25-20, sweep.
Angel Canino posted 14 points, all from attacks, to pace DLS-Z while Alleiah Malaluan and Ylizyeth Jazareno scored 13 and 10, respectively.
The Junior Lady Spikers last held the throne back in Season 75 behind Kim Kianna Dy and Dawn Macandili.
Imee Hernandez was the only Junior Tigresses in double figures with 11 points while Maria Lalongisip and Kate Santiago combined for 14 markers for the Baby Falcons.
In the boys division, Far Eastern University-Diliman prevailed over UST, 25-21, 22-25, 22-25, 25-23, 18-16, to clinch the remaining twice-to-beat slot in the Final Four.
The Baby Tamaraws and the Tiger Cubs cross paths again on Saturday for a spot in the best-of-three championship series at the San Juan arena. The other semis pairing pits No. 1 Bullpups and No. 4 Baby Falcons.
