Bright Akhuetie did not suffer a major injury, but his status for Game 2 remains up in the air
Good news for the University of the Philippines – Bright Akhuetie did not suffer any major injury in Game 1 of the UAAP 81 Finals.
“No major injury,” head coach Bo Perasol told reporters two days after the Fighting Maroons’ Nigerian powerhouse sustained a left knee injury.
In the third quarter last Saturday, Akhuetie and Ateneo de Manila University’s Ange Kouame got into contact with one another and the former fell to the floor, clutching his left knee.
The 6-foot-8 big man had to be stretchered out of the court and into the locker room, but ultimately returned to the game.
Not long after, he was diagnosed with a hyperextended left knee.
Now, Coach Bo said that after two days of tests, the injury wasn’t something that would prevent Akhuetie from probably suiting up for Game 2 on Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum.
That doesn’t mean, however, that he is 100 percent. “May pain pa rin dahil may swelling,” his mentor said.
With that, whether or not Akhuetie will play in the do-or-die game for UP is yet to be determined. “Day-to-day siya. There’s still swelling so he will have to undergo therapy sessions,” coach Bo shared.
