Angelo Kouame loves being a Blue Eagle.
Good news for the Ateneo faithful, bad news for everybody else. Rookie of the Year Angelo Kouame has four more years as a Blue Eagle in the UAAP and he bared that he has only one plan in those four years.
"I want four more [championships]! That's the goal, who's gonna deny that? I still have four more years so hopefully those four years will be good," said the Ivorian student-athlete after helping Ateneo win its 10th overall title.
At one point during the Game 2 versus University of the Philipines, Kouame celebrated one of his four dunks with a symbolic flapping of his arms to represent a mighty eagle. Clearly, Kouame was feeling it.
"I was thinking about that before, I did the Blue Eagle, hey, I fly like an eagle. I wanna fly. Four more years," he said to reporters as he was flapping his arms again while holding his Rookie of the Year trophy.
Kouame posted 22 points and 20 rebounds in Game 2. This is a great improvement from his lackluster Game 1 performance where he only registered seven points and 12 rebounds and mentor Tab Baldwin thought so.
"Certainly, Ange had a redemption game, I thought that he was outstanding tonight. It’s not easy for a guy like Ange, so you know, I thought that he had a great game today," mentioned the Ateneo head coach.
Regarding being acknowledged as the best rookie, Kouame credited his band of brothers once again.
"I feel good. But I want to say thank you to my teammates though because without them [ROY] wasn't gonna be possible. So I say thank you to them. And to my family, everybody who supported me," said the big man.
Kouame's first year in the UAAP has been very eventful and he is just very relieved that this wild ride of his has come to an end.
"I feel tired to be honest. 'Cause also we started January last year and it's December so the pre-season, Jones Cup, everything, we didn't have any break. All the break we had was three days and we still had school. So I'm really tired. Hopefully I'm gonna get strong after this vacation and come back next year," Kouame shared.
He may feel tired right now but don't worry Ateneo, he still has four more years with you.
"I feel great [with Ateneo]. I feel like I'm at home," he said.
