UAAP Finals: Ateneo showers Coach Tab with all the love

Head coach Tab Baldwin is now a two-time UAAP champion coach.
Ateneo de Manila University is the champion for the second straight season.
Even more, the Blue Eagles are the kings for the seventh time in the last 11 years.
Without a doubt, they earned the right to celebrate all over the Araneta Coliseum after they completed a series sweep of the University of the Philippines on Wednesday.
That included the press room – even with their post-win interview still going on.
Yes, that’s Gian Mamuyac pouring head coach Tab Baldwin with water while the latter was explaining something to the media.
Of course, that was done all in good fun as the now back-to-back champions have just wrapped up a season that saw them as laser-focused as they ever were.
Still, Coach Tab reminded everybody to put into perspective their two titles in a row. “First of all, back-to-back doesn’t look so important when you put it next to five in a row. It looks like a little bump on the road compared to that mountain they did,” he shared, referring to the school’s five-peat from 2008 to 2012.
He then continued, “We want to pursue excellence and I guess, a championship is one measure of excellence. We hope that we continue to have championships in the future.”
More than that, the now two-time champion coach reiterated that trophies are not the end-all, be-all for teams and players alike. As he put it, “Again, that’s not the goal, that’s not what we set out to do. Of course, at the back of our minds, in all honesty, that’s the endgame for a team – to win a championship.”
He then continued, “But we just don’t talk too much about it. We talk more about how each one of these guys can be the best player they can be.”
