Turns out, #NBATwitter can be defeated, after all.
In the Philippines, at least.
A study released by Twitter Philippines showed as much when the hashtag for UAAP Season 80 volleyball came up on top as the most-Tweeted sports hashtag in the country for 2018.
Sports also plays a big role in Philippine culture. The most awaited events are that of boxing matches, volleyball and basketball games. The hyperactive fans of the Philippines' premier collegiate volleyball tournament made their presence felt on the Twitterverse, topping even the hashtag for the Olympics, the NBA, and the NBA Finals, which came in second, third, and fourth respectively.
Rounding out the top half of the list is the hashtag of the Premier Volleyball League at the number 5 spot.
The second half of the list is made up of Gilas Pilipinas' official battletry "#LabanPilipinas" at number six, the Asian Games' hasthag at number seven.
The World Cup, UAAP Season 81, and the NBA Playoffs completed the list of most-talked about sports events in the Philippines.
Seven of the 10 hashtags have direct ties with the ABS-CBN Corporation.
