NU's Abadiano posts career high vs former school Adamson

Gerry Abadiano perfected Nazareth School of National University's sweet and huge revenge over Adamson University, the only team that put a mark on their loss column in UAAP Seaosn 81.
The reliable guard produced a career-high performance of 29 points, five rebounds and two assists to cement the Bullpups' 41-point destruction of the Baby Falcons, 112-71.
The 17-year-old Abadiano, who formerly played for Adamson before transferring to NU last year, shared that being a former Falcon is not part of the motivation for their recent victory.
Instead, it really was the heartbreak of letting go of an almost perfect first round due to a 59-62 loss to the Baby Falcons that became the team's ultimate motivation.
"Syempre gusto namin bumawi. Masakit yung talo na yun sa amin. Medyo nag-relax kasi kami that time [sa first round] kaya siguro ngayon nag-bounce back kami sa second round namin. Yun ang motivation namin, bounce back, payback para makuha yung panalo ngayon," said the Batang Gilas player.
In the first quarter, both teams were on pace with each other, but when Abadiano took charge in the second frame, the Bullpups started pulling away.
Despite already having a comfortable lead, NU did not hold back and continued to pile up buckets as their lead ballooned to as large as 44 points in the last few minutes.
As Abadiano put it, "Go pa rin kami kasi yun kami eh. Hindi importante ang score, tambak man o hindi, kung ano laro namin yun lalabas namin sa court."
This mentality led Abadiano to his best scoring performance of 29 points. When asked about it, he bared that he was not even aware that his personal best was established.
"Nako, di ko po alam eh yung mga stats eh. Di ko alam ang mga ganyan," he said.
The Bullpups now stand with a 9-1 slate, making them just one win away from securing a Final Four spot.
Regardless, Abadiano cleared that their eyes are still just set on their next foe, which is De La Salle Zobel on January 23.
"Di namin iniisip yung Final Four ngayon, one game at a time kami. Kung ano yung kaharap namin, dun kami magfo-focus. Di kami nag-iisip ng Final Four, kung ano man yung resulta or outcome ng second round na to, dun kami mag-aadjust. Di namin iniisip yung Final Four sa ngayon," Abadiano shared.
