Terrence Fortea incurred a disqualifying foul, and therefore, a one-game suspension with Nazareth School of National University now in the stretch run of the UAAP 81 Juniors Basketball Tournament.

Once he took the floor once more, though, he did nothing but make up for lost time.

Pouring in 23 points in just 16 minutes of action, Fortea was the front and center flamethrower that allowed the Bullpups to burn down also-ran University of the Philippines Integrated School, 106-55, on Sunday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

The scoring dynamo had six of his team’s 11 total triples, shooting the Bullpups to their 12th win in 13 games.

More importantly, he also shot his squad to the overall top-seed for the Final Four.

This, after incurring a disqualifying foul in their matchup with De La Salle Zobel last January 23 and therefore, having to serve a one-game suspension in their matchup with University of the East last January 27.

Fortea definitely wasn’t alone, however, with Gerry Abadiano and Kevin Quiambo also doing damage as they got off to a 29-10 first quarter blast. They never trailed and were never threatened the rest of the way.

Abadiano wound up with 17 points while Quiambao posted a 10-marker, 11-rebound double-double.

Even though they are now assured of the top spot in the next round, coach Goldwin Monteverde said they remain laser-focused on their heavyweight bout with Far Eastern University-Diliman to end the elimination round a week from now. “We still have to be ready for the semis. After all ng dalawang rounds, mas importante pa rin yung latter part of the season,” he said.

For the Junior Maroons, graduating swingman King Vergeire fronted the effort with 16 points and 15 rebounds. The young crew heads into its last assignment of the season with a 1-12 standing.
