Kai Sotto wanted no complications as Ateneo de Manila High School enters the next round of UAAP 81 Juniors Basketball Tournament.

And so, the towering teen put up another double-double and partnered with Geo Chiu as the Blue Eaglets put away Adamson High School, 72-59, on Sunday at the FIloil Flying V Centre.

Just at halftime, Sotto already had 11 points, seven rebounds, and three assists and also powered the defending champions to a strong surge in the second quarter. “I’d like to give credit to our bigs. They were fighting for it the whole time,” head coach Reggie Varilla said.

The 7-foot-1, 16-year-old and five other teammates got together for a 17-3 tear that turned a two-point edge early in the second quarter to a 42-26 lead at halftime.

The Blue Eaglets would only keep their foot on the gas pedal for the remainder of the game en route to their 11th win in 14 games.

In the end, Sotto had 17 points, 15 rebounds, five assists, and two blocks while Chiu had his best game yet with 18 markers, 10 boards, and four rejections.

Forthsky Padrigao also added six points, nine rebounds, eight assists, and three steals as they clinched the second-seed and the remaining twice-to-beat advantage for the playoffs.

The win also crystallized the Final Four matchups to be twice-to-beat Nazareth School of National University against twice-to-beat Adamson and Ateneo against Far Eartern University-Diliman.

For the 9-5 Baby Falcons, Joshua Barcelona was the lone bright spot with 14 points and eight rebounds. Main man Joem Sabandal was limited to just eight markers, six boards, and five assists.
