Mark Nonoy wants nothing more than to continue channeling his inner Jiovani Jalalon for UST
Mark Nonoy has wrapped up his one-and-done season for University of Sto. Tomas – and what a one-and-done season it was.
In just his first game, he dropped 31 points.
Two games later, he tallied a triple-double of 17 points, 16 rebounds, and 12 assists.
Of course, Nonoy will never ever forget his first three games for the Tiger Cubs. “Yung first game ko, bago lang ako, pero binigay ko yun best ko kaya nakagawa ako ng 31 points. Next two games, triple-double naman,” he shared.
He then continued, “Siyempre, gumaan pakiramdam ko pagkatapos nun. Nagpapasalamat din ako sa buong team na tinulungan nila akong magawa yun.”
Since then, the 18-year-old has done nothing but continue stuffing the stat sheet all while steering his squad near, or even inside, the playoff picture.
In the end, he averaged 21.6 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 6.0 assists to go along with seven wins in seven games. He also totaled three triple-doubles in the tournament.
Without a doubt, Nonoy lived up to the number on the back of his jersey – the same number worn by somebody who stuffed the stat sheet all while steering his squad near, or even inside, the playoff picture.
That somebody? Former Arellano University floor leader and now-Magnolia playmaker Jio Jalalon.
And as it turns out, the UST one-and-done sensation really went with that jersey number six so he may channel his inner Jalalon. “Idol ko po talaga siya kasi ang sipag niya. Go hard siya lagi tapos sunod lang sa sistema,” he said.
Now his Juniors career is over, he is only looking forward to keep doing his idol proud – as a Growling Tiger. “Ni-recruit po talaga ako sa Seniors, pero dahil may playing year pa ako, pinalaro po muna ako sa Juniors. Ngayon, gagawin ko pa rin po yung best ko,” he said.
