Lycha Ebon showed the she deserved taking the No. 2 jersey worn by former Far Eastern University top hitter Bernadeth Pons.
Rookie hitter Lycha Ebon made her presence felt after leading Far Eastern University to a four-set win over National University in their UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament.
The 19-year old opposite spiker debuted with 13 points in the Lady Tamaraws’ 22-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-12, win at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Her performance earned her the match’s player of the game recognition.
“’Di ko alam paano ko nagawa ‘yun basta nagi-enjoy na lang ako kanina,” said the Davao recruit, who had nine attacks and four aces.
The freshman added four excellent receptions for an all-around effort.
“Happy po ako kasi first time kong mag-UAAP tapos panalo pa.
Ebon lived up to the expectations as she stepped up to help fill in the scoring void after the departure of Bernadeth Pons, who averaged 15.3 points per game in her final year.
Coincidentally, Ebon donned the no. 2 jersey worn by Pons in her five-year service with the Morayta-based squad.
Ebon said that she really wanted to take the no. 7 jersey but France Ronquillo beat her to it.
