Almadro says the best yet to come from Ateneo Lady Eagles
However, Almadro says the loss against La Salle will not be how people will view their season, but rather how they make it through the eliminations.

New Ateneo Lady Eagles head coach Oliver Almadro will not be crying over spilled milk as they stumbled in the opening match of the UAAP Season 81 women's volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena, Sunday evening.

The Lady Eagles lost 14-25, 17-25, 25-16, 19-25 against archrivals DLSU Lady Spikers, not a good start for the multi-titled coach from the who took over for former Lady Eagles coach Tai Bundit.

However, Almadro says the loss against La Salle will not be how people will view their season, but rather how they make it through the eliminations.

"What I tell my players is, the good thing here is we’ve seen our worst but we’ve not yet seen our best, so it’s the first game and the UAAP is a long season and what matters is the last game of the season so we will take the positives on this game," shared Almadro.

He also added that they will be looking at their weaknesses and focus on their strengths after viewing game tape against the three-time defending champions.

The mentor also praised the system of his green-clad counterpart, as the result of the match is a clear indication that the Lady Spikers are well-versed in the sets created by the 11-time UAAP champion coach.

"Of course yung La Salle, their system talaga is consistent so pagka ikaw naging inconsistent ka mahihirapan ka talaga sa La Salle."

As they face the UST Golden Tigresses on Wednesday, Almadro stressed that his players need no sour graping and must move on if they want to bounce back ever so quickly.

He also explained the benching of starting setter Deanna Wong over rookie Jaja Maraguinot.

In the end, the younger sister of Jhoana had 13 excellent sets against 45 total attempts.

"It’s one of those days ni Deanna alam mo naman may off days talaga and good thing naman Jaja lifted us up considering na rookie siya. Yun lang talagang kung naglaro si Deanna ng maayos tapos dalawa pa sila eh di much better diba. Pero siguro Deanna will learn from this match, it’s just a hype up of the MOA Arena in the first game."
