"Para sa akin, motivation ito kasi as a rookie, ako yung nagreplace sa kanila sa position nila and sa mga gagawin nila sa loob ng field."

UAAP Season 80 Men's Football Tournament runners-up University of Santo Tomas wasted no time in showing that they're going to be a force to reckon with in UAAP Season 81 with a 3-1 drubbing of De La Salle University, Sunday afternoon.

Scoring opening day goals for the Growling Tigers were veterans Juan Villanueva and Conrado Dimacali, but putting the match out of reach late in the second half was rookie midfielder Glen Ramos.

With DLSU just a goal away from pulling even, Ramos uncorked from outside the box, sending the ball right past Green Archers keeper Domycko Villacin for the 3-1 advantage in the 68th minute.

The first UAAP goal was just the cherry on top of an impressive debut for Ramos, who played the entire 90-minute matchup for head coach Marjo Allado.

While he did draw some praise from Allado, Ramos admitted that he did have some jitters coming into his UAAP debut.

"Siyempre, first ko to na laro sa UAAP, as a rookie, siyempre kinakabahan talaga ako tapos nagbigay lang ako ng 100 percent sa laro," said Ramos, who also gave his teammates a ton of credit. "Hindi lang naman ako yung naglalaro ng 100 percent, yung teammates ko din, naglalaro din sila ng pinaka-best nila, so we worked as a team."

The 20-year old out of Don Bosco Tech Cebu is expected to fill some big shoes, especially with the departure of former key rotation members in Marvin Bricenio and Gino Clarino, but Ramos says that it's all the more fuel for him to show that he's worthy of the trust that he's being shown.

"Para sa akin, motivation ito kasi as a rookie, ako yung nagreplace sa kanila sa position nila and sa mga gagawin nila sa loob ng field."

Ramos maintains that all this is to help UST get back into the title picture once again, and hopefully this time bring a championship back home to España.

"Ibibigay ko yung 100 percent ko para makatulong sa team na ‘to na mag-champion, para makuha namin yung gusto namin para sa UST."
