“With the fourth set, we were up [but UST caught up in the end]. It kinda showed our complacency but it also showed out ability to bounce back,” Kat Tolentino, who led all scorers with 22 points, said.
Early in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament, the Ateneo Lady Eagles are slowly building team character.
After a bitter loss to rival La Salle in their opener, the Lady Eagles had a bummer of a third set, falling down by 10 points multiple times despite holding a two-set lead over the UST Golden Tigresses.
In the fourth set, Ateneo was pushed to the limit as well before eventually holding its ground late, picking up its first win of the year for an even 1-1 record.
“I think we showed composure,” middle blocker Maddie Madayag said.
“With the fourth set, we were up [but UST caught up in the end]. It kinda showed our complacency but it also showed out ability to bounce back,” Kat Tolentino, who led all scorers with 22 points, added.
The Lady Eagles losing a fourth-set lead can be attributed to the season being still young.
As the year goes, Ateneo is hopeful to regain its touch towards the clutch, able to hold despite getting the best shot from opponents pretty much every single time.
“We’re still learning to build our character,” Tolentino said.
“Every game we improve. We’re not fully there yet but I think slowly we’ll get to the character that we want our team to be. We just have to finish right and finish strong,” she added.
