Richard Solis fired 14 points in Far Eastern University's four-set victory over University of the Philippines.
Far Eastern University’s solid net defense and crisp attacking proved too much for University of the Philippines as the Tamaraws took the early solo lead with a 25-13, 25-18, 23-25, 25-18, win Wednesday in the UAAP Season 81 men’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Other than a third-set hiccup, the Tamaraws showed their fine form with well distributed scoring and kept the Fighting Maroons frustrated at the net that translated to 11 kill flocks for FEU, which moved up to 2-0 win-loss record on top of the standings.
Owen Suarez’s fluid playmaking resulted to four Tams scoring in double figures with skipper Richard Solis posting a team-high 14 points with all but one coming off attacks. JP Bugaoan had 13 markers with 10 coming off kills while Jude Garcia and Peter Quiel accounting for 11 markers each for FEU, which swept defending champion National University on Saturday.
Solis added 10 digs, Garcia had 17 excellent receptions while Suarez dished out 31 excellent sets for the Tams, who fired 51 point on attacks.
The Tams also took advantage of the Maroons’ 30 errors to seal the win in the two-hour, 35-minute match.
UP absorbed its second straight defeat in as many games.
John Millete had 19 points while Jerry San Pedro got 13 markers for the Maroons, who opened their campaign with an upset loss at the hands of University of the East.
