For the first time in the history of the UAAP, six individual players will be in the Mythical Team of Season 81.

Ateneo de Manila High School’s Kai Sotto was, bar none, the Season MVP and alongside him will be five other players who put up sensational seasons that were too tough to pass up from awarding.

One of those was put up by MVP runner-up Mark Nonoy of University of Sto. Tomas who totaled three triple-doubles and averaged 21.8 points, 8.9 rebounds, 6.0 assists, and 2.6 steals.

Sotto’s running mate Forthsky Padrigao and Nonoy’s partner-in-crime Bismarck Lina are also in the Mythical Team alongside Far Eastern University-Diliman playmaker RJ Abarrientos and Adamson High-School all-around threat Joem Sabandal.

The development was confirmed by league commissioner Junnel Baculi.

Unlike years past, six individual players are in the Mythical Team due to a decision by the league board.

Padrigao placed third in terms of Statistical Points (SPs), but only played eight games in the elimination round after a bout with appendicitis.

His stuffed statistics of 12.1 points, 6.8 assists, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.4 steals per game, however, did nothing but give him a compelling case for selection.

Another consideration for the development was the fact that after Sotto followed five backcourt players in Nonoy, Padrigao, Abarrientos, Sabandal, and Nazareth School of National University skipper Gerry Abadiano.

As per league rules, the Mythical Team should have one center, two forwards, and two guards – and with how the SPs turned out, Sotto was the center, Nonoy and Padrigao were the guards, and Abarrientos was deemed as a forward.

That meant that another forward spot was open and the board decided to put in Lina who ranked seventh in terms of SPs.
